So I’ve been a bit lax on the ol’ blog front for sometime now so below is a quick summary of things I’m currently ‘into’ as I believe the phrase goes.
Wes Anderson’s ‘L’apartomatique’ ad for Stella Artois by Mother. Sublime direction. Nice thought. Glorious helmet-hair
Le Pompon. http://www.lepomponblog.fr New bar/club on the Paris scene run by some good friends. Haven’t been yet but the music bookings are clearly managed by a man with impeccable taste: Ariel Pink for Hallowe’en. Mais oui.
Clock Opera. Yes, I am going to keep on about these guys. Saw them again at Barfly at the beginning of the month and they are better than ever. New single out on Kitsune. Album being produced by Graeme Stewart of Kid A/Amnesiac fame.
Pogo. How I never heard about this genius before is a mystery. Watch. Smile. Watch again. Then watch the other 12 he’s done.
Walking around Anish Kapoor’s Kensington Garden sculptures with Lucy.
Some great winter albums. Gold Panda – Lucky Shiner. Diamond Rings – Special Affections. Sufjan Stevens – The Age of Adz. The Tallest Man on Earth – The Wild Hunt.
A new The Good, The Bad & The Queen record. Thank you Damon.
Ai Weiwei’s sunflower seeds and the view from the Tate members area.
Jonno’s electronic music. Mount Kimbie-style beats featuring showers, glass and Elephant and Castle’s subway.
Creepy bike protesters on Bonfire Night. Protesting against the motorcycle parking tax, they stood in silence facing Westminster council HQ all wearing identical Guy Fawkes masks.
DDB London’s VW ‘Tango’ ad. Jonathan Glazer doesn’t bring a lot new to this aside from his usual POV camera but it is pretty striking nonetheless.
There it is. I’m off to Secret Cinema again on Wednesday so expect some form of review/rant afterwards. I think it will be ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’ or ’12 Monkeys’.
